About POWW

History

Originally a Portland-based branch of Webgrrls, Portland Oregon Women on the Web (POWW) came to life in 1998. In 2000, POWW broke from Webgrrls to form our own independent regional group of women working in web-related fields.

POWW Activities

The core of our group is our Yahoo-based POWW discussion list. The POWW list is a place for Portland-area women in web-related fields to network, teach, and learn. Anyone is welcome to join. When you sign up, you will be asked to write a sentence about why you wish to join the list. This gatekeeping helps keep the list spam-free. (See POWW List Policies for more info). There is a POWW facebook group as well. List and group memberships are moderated by POWW list admin.

In addition to participating on the discussion list, members occasionally get together to meet, socialize, and network in a local pub or restaurant. Any group member is welcome to organize one of these gatherings.

Despite being small and relatively low-key, POWW has proven to be an invaluable source of tech tips, inspiration, and job leads for active members.
